Case Description

Taiguo Group and Nuotai Technology have jointly established a pilot-scale fluidized-bed system for preheating and decarbonizing ultra-low-calorific coal gangue in Jiangxian County, Shanxi Province.

On January 25, February 1, and February 25, 2024, three trial burns were conducted successively, involving four batches of ultra-low-calorie coal gangue with calorific values of 920 kcal/kg, 708 kcal/kg, 689 kcal/kg, and 602 kcal/kg, respectively. Each trial burn successfully achieved stable combustion of the coal gangue, marking a significant step forward in addressing the disposal of existing coal gangue stockpiles.

Shanxi Jiang County Tai Guo-Nuotai Ultra-Low-Calorific-Value Coal Gangue Waste Heat Recovery Decarbonization Fluidized Bed System Pilot Project

1. According to the operating status report of the test bench at Shanxi Tai Guo Group, stable combustion was achieved in three tests (920 kcal, 700 kcal, and 650 kcal).

2. The adiabatic combustion plus enthalpy-increase process adopted in this scheme for treating large volumes of ultra-low-calorie coal gangue is currently the most mature, economically viable, and best-suited technological approach for large-scale industrial applications.

3. After processing, the coal gangue from this project can be utilized as building materials, roadbase materials, and backfilling materials. The waste heat can be recovered and used for power generation, steam production, or converted into emerging energy sources such as hydrogen production, methanol synthesis, and ammonia production.

4. The economic benefits are significant. Taking 800 kcal/kg as an example, the economic benefits and energy-saving effects are as follows:
