Advantages of fluoride removal agents; Impact of fluoride removal agents on water quality
Fluoride Removal Agent: Scope of Application and Fields of Use.
< Back to listFluoride Removal Agent: Scope of Application and Fields of Use. This article first introduces the basic properties and hazards of fluorine, and then discusses the advantages of Huanrui fluoride removal agents as well as their impact on water quality.
I. Basic Properties of the Element Fluorine
1. Reactivity: At room temperature, it can undergo a combination reaction with most elemental substances, releasing heat vigorously.
2. Inertness: The hydrogen atoms on the alkyl chain can be fully or partially replaced by fluorine, yielding so-called “perfluorinated compounds.” Because the radius of a fluorine atom is slightly larger than that of a hydrogen atom, the fluorine atoms in a perfluorocarbon chain tend to arrange themselves in a slightly helical fashion. These compounds exhibit exceptional inertness that sets them apart from other substances.
3. Non-stick properties: Generally, perfluorinated polymers are highly stable, with excellent resistance to both high and low temperatures as well as strong corrosion resistance. For example, polytetrafluoroethylene can withstand temperatures up to 260 degrees Celsius and is resistant to water and most common organic solvents. 4. Solubility: Perfluorinated organic compounds are difficult to dissolve in common solvents at room temperature, except for ethers and esters; however, their solubility increases upon heating.
5. Corrosivity: Fluorine and some of its compounds are toxic and highly corrosive. Hydrofluoric acid can corrode glass. Moreover, fluoride ions have permeability within human tissues. If hydrofluoric acid comes into contact with the skin and is not promptly treated, it can erode down to the bone, causing permanent damage.
II. The Dangers of Fluorine
1. Harm to human teeth and bones
Fluorine is one of the essential elements for the human body. A deficiency in fluorine can easily lead to dental caries. The appropriate concentration of fluoride ions in drinking water is 0.5–1.0 mg/L. However, if the concentration is too high, it can become toxic. Long-term consumption of water containing fluorine at levels as high as 1–1.5 mg/L can easily cause dental fluorosis. Moreover, when the fluoride concentration in water exceeds 4 mg/L, it can cause skeletal deformities, leading to fluorosis and damaging the kidneys.
2. Effects on Livestock
Ingesting 150 mg of sodium fluoride can cause serious illness, while ingesting 5 to 10 g can be fatal. Livestock that drink water with high fluoride levels or consume feed containing high fluoride concentrations may develop chronic fluorosis, which primarily manifests as lesions in the teeth and bones, making them prone to fractures and loss of working ability. In severe cases, they may become paralyzed, suffer organ failure, and ultimately die.
3. Effects on plants
The toxic effects of fluoride in plants primarily stem from its ability to displace metal ions in enzyme proteins, forming complexes, or to bind with ions such as calcium and magnesium, thereby rendering enzymes inactive. After plants absorb fluoride, the pH of their leaves decreases, causing chlorophyll to lose magnesium ions and transform into pheophytin, which in turn inhibits photosynthesis and leads to chlorosis in the plants.
III. Advantages of Huanrui High-Efficiency Fluoride Removal Agent
1. The entire series of defluorination agents can treat various types of organic fluorides, inorganic fluorides, highly challenging fluoride-containing wastewater, as well as high-, medium-, and low-concentration fluoride-containing wastewater. They can reduce the fluoride content in wastewater to below 1 mg/L.
2. It features a rapid settling rate, fast adsorption efficiency, and high removal rate. Under the same conditions, its fluoride removal efficiency is 2 to 4 times that of activated alumina and 8 to 10 times that of zeolite molecular sieves, significantly reducing treatment costs.
3. The entire process requires no complicated equipment or stringent reaction conditions; it is simple and easy to operate, and readily controllable.
4. The formulation boasts high purity and low impurity content, requiring less dosage and generating less sludge compared to other products available on the market.
5. It contains no calcium, and long-term use will not cause scaling or blockage in pipes or valve bodies.
IV. Impact of Water Quality After Treatment with Huanrui Defluoridation Agent
1. It can reduce the salinity and conductivity of the treated wastewater, improving the permeability of the RO membrane and enhancing the efficiency of wastewater recovery.
2. The pH value of the wastewater will not fluctuate significantly, thus reducing the amount of acid and alkali required for neutralizing the wastewater and lowering costs.
3. The treated water quality is superior to that achieved using conventional inorganic and organic flocculants, and the cost of water purification is 20%–30% lower.
4. The absence of free aluminum ions has no impact on biochemical processes in the effluent from sludge filtration.
5. The flocs form rapidly and settle quickly, offering greater treatment capacity than other products available on the market.
